刘步云博士，中国科学技术大学特任研究员、博士生导师。入选中国科学院引才计划青年人才项目、安徽省海外引才计划项目、全球前2%顶尖科学家榜单。主持国家自然科学基金、中国科大青年创新重点基金、美国NIH通过美国爱荷华大学环境健康科学研究中心支持的项目等。
发表SCI论文90余篇，其中多篇以第一/通讯作者发表于BMJ、Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology、Lancet Planetary Health、JAMA Pediatrics、JACC等期刊。多项成果被国际指南引用。获得中国妇幼健康科技奖自然科学三等奖（4/12）。
中国科大出生队列和护士健康队列的执行PI，庐江队列现场负责人。担任安徽省预防医学会糖尿病预防与控制专业委员会常委、安徽省医学会卫生学分会委员，曾任美国营养学会营养流行病学分会委员、美国儿科和围产期流行病学会年会筹备委员会成员。
